Well,
I'm a bit pumped with what I've just found. I had heard of this simulation game called second life, so I downloaded the software and then entered the game/world as a fluffy racoon.
Anyway, 2 days later I had shed all but my last vestiges of Racoonness, I liked the tail, and having bumped my head flying from one place to another, where do I stumble into but Terra Incognito or the USQ campus in Second Life run by Lindy McKeown.
I had a quick look around and talked to a few other visitors. As you can see, there are video resources, chat functions (audio chat as well) to conduct lessons or tutorials and there was even a discussion board! WOW! Talk about engagement, Pensky eat your heart out!
So how does this relate to real teaching. Well, there is a blog of one American High School's journey in SL and this blog shows how a series of literature lessons took place in SL.
A bit more searching and it turns out that there are real life universities here as well as an education island!
There are also communities of EdTech teachers, Webheads and virtual podcasts from real life (well Japan that is) into second life.
It was at this point that my head went into Chernobl mode!
